Some Stitching Trivia
1. Stitching for a wedding anniversary? The 1st anniversary is for cotton, the 7th is wool, and the 12th is linen or silk.
2. The earliest American sampler is housed in Plymouth, Massachusetts, and was stitched by Loara Standish, daughter of Captain Miles Standish in 1653.
3. The Bayeux Tapestry is actually an embroidery.
4. The Patron Saint of Needleworkers is St. Clare di Faverone (1193 - 1253) of Assissi. Her Saint's Day is 11th August.
5. Needle and Pin is Cockney rhyming slang for gin.
6. The earliest examples of tapestry were Greek and dated back to the 3rd Century BC.
